Riders sign up for the challenge, the scenery and the bragging rights. We make sure they get their time, their medal and something to share, and that family can follow along on the day.
Start, timing point and finish times published live as riders cross the mats.
How live times work →Optional, and built into the live rider times page, so each rider with the app shows as a moving dot.
How tracking works →Gold, silver and bronze worked out automatically from finish times.
See medal standards →Personalised with name, time and medal, ready to download at the finish.
See certificates →Numbers made for cycling and not repeated, so one number links a rider's timing, tracking, results, medal and certificate.
Riders, supporters and organisers want to know how the day is going. With chip timing, every rider's time is recorded the moment they cross the start, any timing points on the route and the finish line, then published live on our Race Day Live results page.
On a sportive, riders spread out right across the route, which is exactly when supporters want to know where their rider is. Our live rider tracking is optional if you want it, and it is fully integrated within our live rider times page, so supporters see each rider as a moving dot on the map alongside their times, with your GPX route drawn on it.
Riders without a phone are still timed as normal and still appear in the live results.
Sportive medals reward riders for the pace they ride rather than where they place. We calculate every rider's medal from their finish time, then show it in the live results and on their certificate. You choose the standards for your event.
| Medal | How it is awarded | Example standard |
|---|---|---|
| Gold | Fastest standard, set as a time or a percentage of a benchmark time | Under 3:45:00 |
| Silver | Mid standard, a strong ride for most riders | 3:45:00 to 4:30:00 |
| Bronze | Entry standard, awarded to finishers inside the cut-off | 4:30:00 to 5:30:00 |
| Finisher | Completed the route | Any finish time |
The times above are examples only. Standards can be set separately for each route, and by age group or gender if you want. Medals are calculated automatically, so there is nothing to work out on the day.
A finisher certificate is the souvenir riders share, print and frame. Ours are personalised with the rider's name, time, cycle number and medal level, on your own event design.

We make our own cycle numbers, designed for cycling and numbered so no two riders share one. That one number is the key to everything: it is how a rider is timed, tracked, ranked, awarded a medal and given a certificate.
We handle the timing so you can concentrate on the route, the feed stations and the riders.
Send us your date, your routes and your rider numbers. We quote your timing, tracking and numbers.
We prepare your entries, cycle numbers, medal standards, certificate design and live map with your GPX route.
Riders are timed at the start, on the route and at the finish. Times and the map go live for everyone.
Final results, medals and certificates are published straight after, and riders can share them.
Whatever you call your ride, we can time it.
Classic road rides with several route options, with timing points on the route and medal standards for every rider.
Big, scenic, hilly rides where riders want an official time and a proper medal to go with the challenge.
Live tracking for supporters, personalised certificates for riders and results that help fundraisers share their ride.
Phone tracking works well where timing points are impractical, so supporters can still follow the field.
Reliable chip timing and live results for laps, loops and point-to-point courses.
Accurate start and finish times, with results published as soon as riders finish.
Sports Timing Solutions is a UK chip timing company based in Cottingham near Hull, and we have been timing events for around 20 years. We time cycle sportives, charity bike rides, gran fondos, mountain bike events and time trials, as well as road races, fun runs and festival events, so we understand what organisers and riders both need from a cycling event.
A sportive can have hundreds or thousands of riders setting off in waves over several hours. Chip timing records each rider's own time from the moment they cross the start, so nobody is penalised for where they stood in the bunch. Optional timing points on the route add live checkpoints, which helps organisers follow the field and gives riders splits to look back on. Timing points are free using our free timing app, so you can add as many as you like without adding to your timing cost.
Live rider times tell you who has passed a timing point or finished. Live rider tracking shows where riders are in between. Put them together and supporters get the full story: a moving dot on a map, and a time the moment it crosses the line. Because both run from the same cycle number, a rider's tracking, results, medal and certificate all sit together.
Sportive riders love to chase a medal. Gold, silver and bronze standards give every rider a personal target, whether they are racing the clock or riding with friends. We calculate medals automatically from finish times, so organisers do not have to work them out and riders know their result immediately.
A personalised finisher certificate with a rider's name, time and medal level is something people share on social media, send to sponsors and keep for years. It also spreads the word about your sportive. Ours are free with our chip timing and available to download straight after riders finish.
Whether you are running a first-year charity ride with a couple of hundred riders or an established sportive with thousands, we can scale our timing to suit. We time events across Yorkshire, the North of England and further afield, and we are happy to travel anywhere in the UK.
Get the app, enter the demo key and any number of your choice, then watch yourself appear on the live map.
Sportive timing records each rider's start, finish and any timing points on the route, then publishes official results. Most sportives are not races, so riders are timed for their own challenge, and medal standards reward them for the pace they ride.
