Running a 12 or 24 hour lapped event?
There are results, and then there are Sports Timing Solutions results. We now time lapped events from start to finish, and give every runner a results page that tells the story of their whole day.
A 12 or 24 hour lapped event is a different challenge to a normal race. Nobody finishes in a time. Runners keep going round the loop, and the winner is the person who covers the most laps. Most results pages just don't cope with that: they show a list of times that mean nothing, or a spreadsheet of lap counts that nobody wants to scroll through at 3am.
Ours is built for it.
Results that make sense for laps
On the main results page, runners are ranked by the number of laps they completed, most laps first. The total laps are shown where a finish time would normally be, so the leaderboard reads the way a lapped event should. The podium shows laps too, and there is a search so any runner, friend or family member can find their result in seconds.
Behind the scenes there is nothing extra to do. Our timing software supplies each runner's total laps, laps behind the leader, fastest lap, slowest lap and average lap, so there are no hand calculations and no spreadsheets to tidy up after the event.
A results page for every runner
Tap a name and you get a personal page built around laps rather than a finish time:
- Total laps in place of a finish time, clearly marked as based on laps.
- A welcome message written for lapped events, with the runner's name and event.
- Distance in miles and average pace per mile, worked out from the lap length you tell us (metres, kilometres or miles, so a 400m track or a 5 mile loop both work).
- Laps compared with the field, a line graph showing how the runner's laps stack up against everyone else.
- Every lap on a line graph, with the fastest and slowest laps marked, so you can see the highs, lows and wobbles through the night. Long events scroll sideways so even 1,000 laps stay readable.
- A milestone timeline, showing when they passed 10 km, the half marathon, the marathon, 50 km, 50 miles, 100 km and 100 miles.
- An hour-by-hour strip, showing how many laps they started in each hour. The darker the block, the more laps, with their busiest hour outlined in green and their quietest in red.
- A full lap-by-lap table, tucked away until it is wanted and shown 25 laps at a time with Next and Previous buttons.
If you do not need every lap, the basic version simply shows the totals and the averages. The extra graphs and timelines appear when we have the individual lap times.
Everything else that comes with our timing
Lapped events get the same full service as our road races:
- Chip timing and professional timing equipment on the day.
- Live results while the event is running, so supporters can follow along from home.
- Live tracking, so friends and family can see where their runner is on the course.
- Live video from the finish line.
- A personalised finisher certificate for every runner.
- Shareable results, so runners can post their laps and distance to social media with a link that previews properly.
- Results controlled by you at event level, including the lap length and whether the compare-with-the-field card is shown.
